the more parallel to the floor you are the harder it is. It'll hit your abs a bit too which is always good.

Hey man dont focus too much just on the muscles "for" boxing. You will get most of what you need from the training itself. Getting stronger is all well and good but its the skills that are the most important being strong is important too however. Just dont lose site of the real goal which is to be a good at boxing not good at exercising.

Don't do weights until you are at least 16 1/2.

i have to say i heavily disagree with the rest off the thread, as long as he gets and instructor to teach him the right technic and start easy, weight training will be benefitial like all strenghttraining, the growth thing is an old myth.

If he gets a competent instructor, I completely agree with you. The body does not care whether the resistance is your own body or a barbell/dumbell. To get "******edly strong," you need heavy resistance, and the injury risk isn't necessarily higher with weights. I see more people getting injured doing dips than properly executed bench presses, for instance.

For kids (as with beginners of allages), the emphasis should be on technique. Diving in at the deep end before you can swim is not such a good idea...

Yeah generally I dont say not to do a certain thing because of such and such but you'll notice I didnt say he shouldnt do them just that he should stick with more strength endurance like stuff but still have them sort of heavy. I have studied a little on youth exercise and most sources suggest lighter weights, it is still mostly unkknown what could happen (if anything) if someone of a young aga does weights.

I think bodyweight stuff is safe and a good way to go regardless because there is always a new challenge (just like weights...you can add more weight) with a different movement and if you are not ready to do a certain movement you wont be able to do it simple as that. Well thats not entirely true you can still do things with poor form but its not as bad as say...trying a barbell snatch with poor form and getting bent in all the wrong places.

Besides, check out those videos, theres some pretty sweet stuff you can do if you master your own body. It'll add up to confidence and confidence is a big thing. ne ways I gotta run before this post gets any more huge.
