  • I'm finally starting training..

I've finally found a boxing gym near to where I live and i'm going to check it out next week.

What advice have you boys got for a first timer?? For example.. what to do, what not to do, Gym etiquette etc..

I already know not to be a ****y bastard and not to answer back so don't post stuff like that, it's just common sense. I wanna hear from people who train regularly in a boxing gym.

What should I look out for/pay attention to?

Just appear respectful and excited to begin, you don't even have to bring anything and hold off on buying gear until you've spoke with a trainer. Good luck!

Lol people on this forum make it out to be such a big deal, like your gonna walk in and everybody's gonna be out to get you. It's not jail.

Just be polite, if people banter with you then have some banter back, etc.

Make sure you introduce yourself to the trainer and let him know you've never boxed before, whether you would be looking to do amateur fights or not, etc. etc.

It's not a big thing, just go in and enjoy yourself.

Oh yeah and make sure you turn up with some money so you can train.

be prepared to work your ass off.. you might be a lil intimidated when u see som of the other guys in there doing real good and you dont know what your doing.. thats normal.. you may look ****** on the jumprope but you'll get used to it lol.. boxing training is up and down.. some days u feel great other days your discouraged (because u didnt do well in sparrig) or something.... just contiunue continue continue and you'll get what u put into it

If people try to help you, don't act like you know better. Like I told my friend to stop dropping his guard like he was Roy Jones Jr, and he said "it works better for me", so I hooked him everytime he dropped his guard and he gradually keeps it up. My trainers and gym people usually give me hints on how to improve, but I always listen. Also like someone said, its not prison, its a place to learn, so enjoy yourself and socialize with people.
