I've been penciled in for Dec 16th. I'm currently 238lbs and will be hopefully around 230-232lbs for fight night. I'm meant to be facing some guy from South London who's also a ****er. He's ony 5'9" (compared to my 6'3") and weighs 222lbs but he moves like an elephant I've been told. Could be an interesting fight!!!

I've just had my third exhibition. Ours are 3, 2-minute rounds with 16 oz. gloves; at our gym the proceeds from our exhibition fights go to charity, so the local boxing league lets them slide.

Typically at an exhibition there is no winner or loser; my last bout I won just because the guy quit (RTD) in the third. At my gym you have to have 3 exhibition / smoker fights before the coaches will let you compete in the am's. Also, there is only one other Master Division guy in my weight class in the whole city, and he's been pretty much mentoring me at my gym so I'm not ready to fight him, yet.

I think I'm going to have a couple more exhibition fights before my first amateur bout. They are great for getting comfortable in the ring. I will most likely have my first amateur bout in either fall of '08 or early '09; that will give me about 2 1/2 - 3 years behind the gloves, and 5-6 exhibition fights in a couple of weight classes. But then, I'm not particularly gifted at this sport.

I am amazed when I see guys going into the am's within 6 months of showing up at a gym.

My next exhibition / smoker will be in February if all goes well -- no injuries, illness, job stress, etc.

Essentially, but in a smoker or exhibition you're throwing at 110%, as opposed to the majority of sparring, which is a lot less intense. My understanding is that while a smoker / exhibition match is far more intense than sparring, it's less intimidating than an amateur bout.

Exhibitions are there to play around the rules a little bit.

You need no real notice to have them. Its like a sparring match but in reality it is a fight.

                    You know, loopholes.

To stay on par with the thread, I have fight on January 19.

A lot of gyms get away with holding smokers because they still want admissions and under the table ********, they still want fighters getting experience, but they cant get sanctioning.

Din Thomas got caught and the charges were recently dropped for having whole illegal events at his gym in Maine.

He took it a step further than he should have, but a good lawyer can still work past details.
