  • Rock climbing - any help in boxing?

I've been climbing for a few years now and I want to start boxing, or at least training to box, pretty soon. Should i keep climbing in as part of my routine? I was thinking that i could avoid weights by keeping the climbing and doing pushups. I know climbing increases power (in contrast to strength), and helps in muscle twitch/ cooridination/ balance, but im not sure if it's in a way that would help in boxing. You are basically doing offset pullups, sometimes one handed, so i assume that is good.

Basically, Anyone have any experience with this?

i never rock climbed, but u r the man for doing that. i always wanted to scale a mountain like that it must be a rush like no other. props to u. i would imagine it would greatly help ur strength and hand strength.

i box and climb. Climbing isn't part of my boxing training, its just something extra i do on the side. i can see it helping with balance/stability and i find it to work my back really well, so in that sense i guess its helpful for boxing.

Theres a rock climbing gym a few towns over, I plan on getting a group together and heading out to try it. I've done it once before a long time ago when I was scared of heights haha.

I'm really fortunate. My college has a rock wall at the rec facility so students can climb for free. Thats where I started. Climbing is awesome, if you get the chance, try it out...its a lot of fun.
