So I've finally gotten the hang of throwing my weight into each and every punch... but now I'm having a little trouble throwing my combos hard AND fast. I know I was off balance cuz I wasn't stepping to the side w/ my lead foot when i threw (I was completely in a straight line). But now that I have my balance I feel my combos losening up. Anyone got any exercises for me to speed up my combos and make them explode too?

I like GENE TUNNEY'S old school technique: get you a rubber ball and squeeze it throughout the day. 400 times for the lefthand/wrist; 200 times for the righthand/wrist (assuming you're an orthodox fighter, just the reverse for southpaw). Why a rubberball? Because the explosiveness comes out of the turn of the wrist at the END of the punch and to have that you need strong wrists.
Meanwhile, your SPEED can be developed with the SPEEDBAG, of course. The MITTS are good. But dont have your trainer assist you by moving the mitts in to meet your punch as you see so many fighters doing these days. While it looks good--that actually SLOWS down your REFLEXES to me. Just have him hold the mitts like they did in the old school days: STATIONARY and you COME to the mitts with every punch. For explosiveness, have your trainer position the mitts at different angles suddenly while you explode on them with a punch. That's how you develop EXPLOSIVENESS and SPEED. The speedbag, just gives you speed more than explosiveness. The MITTS when done rite, give you BOTH.
You can get those cheap rubberballs at like a FAMILY DOLLAR store...or get a tennis ball.
Good luck with that.

Another good one for wrist strength in a bucket filled with rice, grab and twist at the rice you'll soon feel it. Strengthening your forearm is also pretty important for punching speed. I've noticed a big increase in speed since starting my new job since my wrists and forearms have gotten stronger.

hi this is kind of off topic but i dont see any point in starting a new thread for it...... i have noticed that sometimes i lean back slightly when i throw hooks when i realise im doing it i stop my self and try to make sure i'm shooting the punch from the hip and leaning in the right direction but it slows me down when im constantly haveing to think about doing it....i know that the only way to get better is practice till it becomes insticnt but is there anything i could do to make sure i don't get into bad habbits
