statements like this have always caught my attention as it seems that half of boxing historians, former pros, etc. say punchers are indeed born, while the other half say they are made.

it's most likely a combination of both, but i'd definitely say most of it leans towards god given talent.

if you have light bone structure, except for perfectly timed counter punches, chances are you won't be knocking down walls even if you have perfect power punching technique...something you're born with

some guys just have insanely broad shoulders, dense bones, and heavy hands. some guys just have arms that are as long as whips that give them extra leverage, and strong tendons that enhance the snap and recoil of a punch.

all those things above can make a fighter with even piss poor technique a dangerous puncher as seen with unrefined sluggers that have made it to the top tier of boxing throughout its history.

i cant believe for one minute that punching power is a god given ability. technique is what gives you the ability. and power comes from practice. also weight and speed

Just remember Mcclellan, Cooney, Baer, and Shavers. Arguably the hardest hitters p4p in boxing history, looked like whimps. Expecially Bob Foster. They weren't strong people and didn't look like they would hit hard but each had murder in their hands.
