I think even if your not born with the ability to punch hard, you can build up your strength so as you become a strong puncher so even if you dont have the snap you can still get alot of weight behind your punch from the strength you've gained from weightlifting or something.
Sure. Just remember, you can't make a mule into a racehorse, but you can make it a fast mule.
i equate punching to power to other sports. Look at some golfers, baseball players etc. Some can hit the ball really far and others just cant. I think power has alot to do with fast/slow twitch muscles but also the abilty to transfer weight and balance. You wanna know if you are gonna be a big puncher, hit the bell in a carnival. Its about accelaration as well. You need to naturally gain speed til the point of impact. A powerful golf swing starts out slow from the top and gains speed til the point of impact. Same thing with a punch. I also subscribe to the punchers are born theory as well, but anyone with some coordination has the abilty to learn to throw a good punch.
No, Cooney, Shavers, Bob Foster, Gerald Mcclellan and many of the other hardest hitters ever got pushed around alot in the ring, they weren't strong people, just powerful.
I subscribe to the Teddy Atlas / Emanuel Steward theory that punchers are born not made
All us old guys believe that, based on the observations and traditions of boxing. These young whippersnappers think they can pump some iron and transform themselves into Geroge Foreman. The only problem is nobody has ever done it.
