I have money, i have the talent...but wherever you are living is way too much...miami is a ****ing sweet place and I would love to visit but hey...even with what im making i cant go there sorry bud......People in this forum may think u can take me cause of our lil video you made, if they think that they know nothing about MMA. If I were to fight you to prove how wrong u are I would pay for the fight myself....maybe give u like only 100 or 200 to fight me...i have the money but not in the right location sorry. Thought u were a cool guy but when u talk smack like that u lost my respect, and be all disrespectful towards canada is plain old lame.

bottom line is The only chance for an MMA fighter is in the Cage.. theres no chance in the Ring.
But even in the cage Boxers still have their shot since they are Specialized in movement and punching from angles and the rules allow them to do more basic things such as kick and elbow.
i'm sure there are a few mma guys who have decent enough punching skills. having said that, i do feel that punching technique in mma is not of a particularly high level in general.
now, a boxer actually has more disadvantages in a mma fight than i've seen written about here.
- mma gloves are smaller and are open ******** as well. a boxer would have to spend quite a bit of time getting used to the difference in gloves. a boxer could not use the ear muffs defence with much effectiveness since mma gloves don't provide enough size to block punches.
- a boxer may hurt his hand while punching because of the lack of cushion around the hand. also, punching with these gloves means you have to change the way you throw your punch as the physics between the gloves are different. and the impact of a solid punch will definitely be different with mma gloves.
- of course boxers would also be able to use elbows and kick, etc. however, how many boxers are actually trained to throw an elbow or kick? none, unless they have trained in martial arts at some time in thier life for atleast a few years. it takes a while to really know what your doing with things such as kicks for example : if a fighter is not trained in kicking, then when he attempts a kick his execution will suffer because he will not be confident in his technique. this would put the untrained person(boxer in this discussion) in a very dangerous position of being taken down or countered. not to mention that the boxer has a higher chance of injuring his foot or leg kicking because he does not know what he is doing.
- streetfighting does not = ma/mma. big difference between someone trained in martial arts and someone who calls themself a streetfighter. i've had a self proclaimed streetfighter back out of a boxing match with me. likely because he knew that i train 6 to 7 days a week in a structured manner condusive to efficient developement of fighting skills. that, and i have effectively boxed people twice his and my size.
outside of my own experience, i've seen a lot of streetfights both in person and on the interweb. your regular untrained streetfighter never seems to have a clue on how to kick or even stomp a person correctly.
- if a boxer gets taken down in a mma fight, he's basically screwed. his best chance of survival is probably to punch out of a disadvantaged position. even there, he would be at risk for an armbar or the mma person to change to an even better position.
- getting hit with those mma gloves is a hell of a lot defferent than getting hit with boxing gloves.
well, i'm going to stop so this post doesn't get unreadably long. basically summing it up, boxers will almost always have better punching skills than mma guys because that is all that their training focuses on. having said that, it is all that their training focuses on.Last edited by j; 05-02-2007, 05:26 PM.

very well said man....boxers kick ass in the standup game..not by much but they still do....but in a MMA fight boxers are bitches on the ground....why cant they admit that stuff? some on here think they all high and might cause they can throw some punches...its just a joke..sorry guys lol.
a lot of fighters can be/are arrogant. you know everybody wants to think they are special, or what they practice is. i think that's where the "born with speed, power, etc" bull**** comes in. some people actually think they were blessed with special gifts that not everyone has. it makes them feel better about themselves. truth is, it's mostly bull****.
expanding on the above point, while i'm on it, a highly coordinated person is coordinated because they have worked on or developed that level of coordination in one way or another. after enough work or practice, it feels and looks so natural that you might think that you are gifted and special. jack dempsey said this is because many boxers who become successfull become somewhat egotistic, boastful, and swept away in the thoughts that they're special and forget all of the hard work they have put into reaching the level that their at. as dempsey wrote "in your heyday as champion, you can't see the forest for the trees."
ref: championship fighting - chapter 3, punchers are made; not born
