The purpose of extra weight is to give the deltoids extra work and develop strength in the arm motion (resistance to parrying, etc.). It doesn't do a thing for punching power, although it may improve speed a bit. There is a danger of hyperextending the elbow due to the extra weight. Training like a fighter of Mayweather's caliber won't necessarily get the same result as a fighter with Mayweather's genetics.....
