A forum ****? Since when did weight lifting ever contribute to boxing? It's all about guts at a particular weight. Boxing means fighting at the weight, right? Weight lifting is fine for general strength training, but it isn't the same as fighting. Fighting means knocking the other guy out, not lifting weights. Don't pretend to be a tough guy because you can lift a lot of weight. Get in the ring and see how it translates into actual ring skills. I well remember Joe Frazier on the old "Superstars" shows unable to press 200 pounds above his head (Walter Payton was doing 325). But don't tell me he couldn't have knocked out every guy who ever appeared on that show. You guys need to get over the "show" aspect, big muscles, and all that crap, and get into the "go" part of it, e.g. gameness. This is one of the advantages of being old, by the way. I've seen a lot more things than you have.........

i find that lifting occassionally allows me to retain my natural strength that i use for pushing and clinching and ****. so it does help out with boxing a little bit. my punches are probably slower though, too, because of the lifting.

Weight Lifting can have its Pro's and Con's but it really depends on if your doing sport specific training. So if your idea for lifting weights for boxing is doing curls and skull crushers to get big arms then of course lifting is going to harm you in the ring. But if your training for strength and doing compound movements like Rows,Bench,Squat,Military press and Deadlift and lifting for strength and explosiveness it can really help you out
