    Briggs:"Liakhovich Was The Toughest Russian"

Defending World Boxing Organization heavyweight champion Sergei "White Wolf" Liakhovich appeared to be cruising to a decision win in a relatively uneventful contest under a full moon at Phoenix's Chase Field Saturday night until Shannon "The Cannon" Briggs exploded in the last 30 seconds in the 12th and final round to score two miraculous knockdowns--the last of which left Liakhovich outside the ring, sprawled out on the timekeeper's table as referee Bobby Ferrara waved off the action with one second to go in Arizona's first-ever heavyweight world championship. Briggs was fortunate he better get ready to War further if he thinks that was the best out there...........Hate to say it but I see Wlad pulling a Lennox on Briggs if they fought.I would be backing Briggs BTW but would not bet on it.

briggs is crap, i was SO disappointed in his performance, he did nothing, i know game plans and his was crap, briggs was VERY fortunate that serguei fell into a little trap and briggs caught him.

briggs has the punch, but that is about it.briggs let a lot of opportunites slip by actually he didn't even try when he had a chance, and he had plenty of times where he could've had free shots with serguei on the ropes and in the corner, briggs did nothing. i think if briggs doesn't ko a fighter and doesn't gas (which he will) he'll lose. and he came extremely close to losing tonight.

Klitschko's chin and sometimes-awkwardness may make the "toughness" statement seem correct, but I have to think Klitschko has very little chance of losing to Briggs unless he chooses to offer up his chin Mayorga-style.

Valuev vs. Briggs could be used in POW situations for our country now that Bush has OK'd torturing suspected *********s...

The title of this fight should have been: "When Choke Artists Meet".

I echo your sentiments almost to a tee; but suggest fear and panic from pressure had more to do with this outcome than any gameplan.

Sergei may have been the toughest of them, but certainly not the most skilled, powerful, or best conditioned. After that 12th round I wouldn't call him the smartest either.

His corner told him they weren't sure he was ahead. Maybe only in retrospect but that was definitely a mistake. Briggs was not on the attack, and Sergei should have slept through the round.

With all that said Briggs deserves a little respect. He at least stood there for 12 rounds, had snap on his punches and finished strong.

I bet Briggs would accuse authorities of using the gas to torture him, or at least a bad smell.
