You might remember Okine as the crude heavyweight who Shannon Briggs completely destroyed last year on Friday Night Fights. Don't leave your seats for this one.

Or, more likely, you probably chose to forget all about Okine, the heavyweight who Shannon Briggs completely destroyed last year.

He does own a stoppage win over Tony Tubbs, more than I can say for Brian Minto. But Okine was 225 for that fight, 20 pounds heavier for Briggs and nearly 260 for an April decision losss to Timo Hoffman.

Dog, a win over Tony Tubbs at this stage is hardly sufficient credentials to take Okine's chances to pull this off against Tua as a serious possibility. Okine has terrible balance and doesn't throw any kind of serious combination punches. Okine is going to drown.

The real excitement should be for the undercard, with Kid Chocolate Peter Quillin gearing up for some interesting ****. He's a very serious prospect, watch him.

Oh, I wasn't giving him any chance to win against Tua, I just found it interesting that this guy could catch catch Tubbs but Minto couldn't. I saw the latter fight live (helluva drive, by the way). Tubbs was 1980's Oprah fat but slick as ever. I was completely unimpressed with Minto, and the Tubbs loss comes to mind whenever his camp sends out press releases touting how he should be getting title shots.

I loved Quillin's kayo of Prieto. What a ****** move by the latter. I had to inaugurate a "Boxers Behaving Dumbly" entry for Prieto dropping his hands only to be knocked out. I'm sure even Nate Campbell was watching, screaming at the television like he was watching a horror movie with a chick about to go into the wrong room.

You wouldn't happen to be David Greisman, would you? Your Fighting Words column is my favorite read on the net, especially with the Ten Count, that is cool

I agree, Minto isn't impressive at all. I like how he lauds himself after every fight about how he is so proud for being a great entertainer, too bad he can't convert that into head movement. Chocolate is nasty, he has great range when he's on but a tendency to fall into his opponents. The Prieto left hook KO was a bomb, Quillin knocked him stiff with that shot.

Cheap, cheap plug. I either have to blush or put you on my payroll now.

I'm interested in seeing what'll happen with Brian Minto's fight against Axel Schulz. Minto has improved, but his quality of opposition is still on the level of "My promoter's trying to make money by appeasing the crowd with knockouts." There's money to be made in having a heavyweight in your stable, but I wonder if Minto would ever like to get serious and drop down to cruiserweight.

I'll give Quillin more time to develop and garner experience before I can hypothesize on his prospects, especially as the Prieto fight is all I've seen and his quality of opposition is consistent with others early into their professional career.

There's an advantage being located where you are and you've been capitalizing on it.

LOL, you're on a payroll? LOL good stuff, I'm still working my way up to that level here at BS. Keep it up.

Minto is smallish for a heavyweight and any serious consideraitons of him I concur would be at cruiserweight. He has limited athletic talent and is really only a regional attraction, but he does have some money making prospects. He can make a few bucks before he's done, but not at cruiserweight, it's a catch 22.

I meant that if you're going to pop in cheap plugs like that I'd feel compelled to pay you as my hype man, as the Flavor Flav to my Chuck D.

The blue-collar ham-and-egg boxing scene generally has limited talent but packed crowds cheering behind regional fighters. I think it's a good thing, as long as the boxers aren't put in dangerous situations -- like the stream of white guys that were being massacred by Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.

Minto'll earn money going overseas to fight Schulz. In fact, his best chance for earning cash would be landing in a spot like Germany where he can face lesser foes and build an international fan base.

Has your move upstate made getting to press conferences and gym sessions more difficult?

FLAVOR FLAV! Man, I want to atleast be Vinny from Naughty By Nature, because I actually can do stuff.

Moving upstate has made the whole experience of being a writer almost unmanageable. I haven't been able to do much of anything up here like I was able to in New Jersey. There is no fight scene up here and now with me working at the hotel I'm employed with, my schedule has taken away any leisure time to take the 2 hr train ride to New York City. I've only been able to manage interviews because my laptop was stolen on my last day of work in New Jersey. It's tough being an improvised reporter without a college degree and being dead broke. I'd love one day to write for a living, but I know that's many lifetimes away from Main Street, Poughkeepsie.
