Don King, ‘a Homeless Promoter,’ Looking for New Broadcast Partner

DEERFIELD BEACH, Fla.—Don King states that prior to the electrifying comeback fight of Felix “Tito” Trinidad against Ricardo “El Matador” Mayorga on Oct. 2 at Madison Square Garden, he complained to executives at HBO Sports that the event was not receiving the marketing and promotional effort it deserved.

King stated, “They gave Bob Arum six months to promote Oscar De La Hoya vs. Bernard Hopkins, and they gave me six days to promote Trinidad vs. Mayorga—the fight of the year.” [details]

King should realize that a lot of fight fans had to decide what fight they were going to pay for. I chose Hopkins-De-La-Hoya. I think a lot of other people did also. Having two Pay Per Views in a two week period wasn't a very bright idea. As far as King accusing HBO of wanting to control the fight game...well if that isn't the pot calling the kettle black, I dont know what is.

Don't be suprised if HBO is treating Don King like a TRASH . . . he deserves such treatment, it's an open secret that he is serving his own interest not the NETWORKS' nor the FIGHTERS. That guy has already inflicted so much damage to the sports so time for him to dis-engage.
