  • Leaving Las Vegas: Sonny Liston

On those rare occasions when Sonny Liston beat Muhammad Ali in their games of psychological warfare, the only people who laughed were the acolytes who were too afraid not to. Certainly, nobody applauded Liston for possessing a razor sharp mind and a slashing wit. [details]

          Good article, cool read.

I've read about some of what the writer wrote. But what i'd like to hear is stories that George Foreman can tell about Sonny Liston, since Foreman at one time was Listons sparring partner and im sure thats where Foreman learned to have a mean stare that works for him from his teacher Liston. I'd also like to hear stories that Foreman can give about his sparrings with Liston and how he was around him.

I remember seeing a hbo special about Liston and how he wanted to be a good champion for the people, as mentioned in this article, but that when he got home expecting people to great him at the airport nobody was their and after that is was "me against the world." And about the drug over dose supposedly in that special it was said that Liston was afraid of needles. They say before Tyson, before Foreman their was Sonny Liston.

Another superb piece of literary art from Mike Casey.

...oh, and any article that references Tom Petty's always gonna be right by me.

            Great read.
