The hindsight commandos are out in full force. The truth is 99% of them were sure that Lacy would knockout Calzaghe and not even put a crease in his shorts. Styles make fights and lacy's weakness played right into Calzaghe's strength. Anybody who thought Lacy would walk over Calzaghe doesn't know the first thing about boxing. Lacy had to plug the holes in his style to win that fight. That is not such an easy thing to do, especially when you have no awarness that there are holes in your style. When his manager and promoter got up in public and on camera and said they were surprised by the outcome, we can only conclude they are incredibly cynical or completely ******.

I got to agree with PBF34 here. I thought it would be a close fight, and that Calzaghe could win a UD but not that dominantly.

I would of expected Calzaghe at his best to beat Lacy as well as he did, and said at his best he'd anihilate him and embarass him with ease many times beforehand.

i dont think it was an upset (even after all the **** i talked prior to the fight), but it was undoubtedly suprising to see calzone beat lacy so easily.

**** EVEN over here in the UK the odds were 8-1 in Lacys favour.. so i'd say it was abit of an Upset.. NOT to me though.. those 8-1 odds on a UD payed very nice indeed

What NOBODY (other than German's) actually saw though was Joe's career-best performance against Mario Veit last year!

I recently saw this fight (with German commentary) and Joe looks absolutely dazzling, just brilliant! No wonder Warren had that smirk on his face.. because Joe on that form Lacy hardly stood a chance - Warren said a few days after the Lacy fight that the only other time he'd known Joe so relaxed before a fight was before that Veit fight (last year).

Ofcourse it was, Calzaghe looked absolutely awful against Salem (his head was all over the place) and snapped a bone clean off in his left hand against Ashira. He was a warrior with a big heart, willing to go to war and trade, even if he was knocked down he'd get up and trade again straight away.. that was Joe, a heart fighter, a heart fighter who had missed the boat years ago and was killing himself to make weight.

Lacy was the rightful favourite. Not because he was anything special, but because he was a beast puncher and Calzaghe seemed there for the taking.
