**********.com has been informed that Don King Productions has inked heavyweight contender Shannon Briggs to an exclusive promotional agreement, with an eye towards matching Briggs against WBO heavyweight champion Sergei Liakhovich. Briggs has been in long discussions for a fight with IBF heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko, but evidently Briggs grew tired of waiting. Where this leaves Klitschko's November 11 HBO date at Madison Square Garden is unclear at the moment, but newly crowned WBC heavyweight champion Oleg Maskaev now appears to be in the drivers seat to land a coveted fight against Klitschko. Shelly Finkel, Klitschko's advisor is out of the country and unavailable for immediate comment. Briggs attorney, Michael Borao was also unavailable for immediate comment. More to follow. Remember where you heard it first!
If this is true then I'm happy as hell..Brigg doesnt deserve a shot at anyones title...he had his changes and blow thing time and time again...he need to continue to fight the nobodies in effort to boost his record up...Briggs sucks...

Thanks Mr Soprano for the news. Unfortunately, Greg Leon has a habit of making up stories so I will wait until ********* report's this story. They seem to be the only credible source.

And here you go. Taken straight from fight news page.

        ANNOUNCEMENT
        Briggs Now Facing Liakhovich!
Abandons Klitschko negotiations and signs with King.
A source close to the situation says that heavyweight contender Shannon Briggs and his representatives grew tired of waiting for IBF Champion Wladimir Klitschko and his manager, Shelly Finkel, to finalize arrangements for a fight on November 11 and have decided to instead sign to face WBO Heavyweight Champion Sergei "The White Wolf" Liakhovich (23-1, 14 KOs), possibly in early November in New York. Briggs (47-4-1, 41 KOs) has also signed a promotional deal with Liakhovich’s promoter, Don King, contingent on the Liakhovich fight taking place. The source says Team Briggs decided to look elsewhere when Finkel, who they say promised them “1000%,” they had the fight, began negotiating publicly with new WBC Champion Oleg Maskaev and reportedly made overtures to Liakhovich, top-rated contender Calvin Brock and others. “Mr. Finkel is retuning from a relaxing cruise today to find that the Shannon Briggs ship has already sailed,” said the source. Briggs is currently rated #3 by the WBO.

I couldn't agree you more. Why does Wlad have to wait 8 freakin months to fight again after not even breaking a sweat against Chris Byrd?

I can understand when a fighter needs the time off to recuperate and get back into shape; for example, Jeff Lacy, Manny Pacquino, Thunder Gatti, etc. But when a fighter wins a fight without receiving much punishment, there is no reason to wait on the sidelines more than 4-5 months like Diego said.

funny thing is,,,I wouldnt be shocked if briggs stopped serg early. serg is still highly untested and briggs is a better 2 fisted puncher than brewster when he lets his hands go. thats said,,,I'd still pick serg to win the fight considering briggs always struggles against top 15 fighters,,but briggs has a 30% chance of pulling out the kayo imo

If Briggs does not rid Sergei early on and what I mean by early on is by the 4th round, then Sergei is going to knock Briggs out.

(Yes I think Briggs is tougher than Maskaev)
Are you for real? Wlad's "problem" is that he wants to unify the division.

This is phenomenal news. For the first time since Lewis-Holyfield, it appears we will have a HW unification fight. It baffles the mind how anyone could possibly see this as bad news or criticize Wlad for this move. This is a step in the right direction for Wlad, for the division, for the sport. Awesome news, let's just keep our fingers crossed.
