  • Comments Thread For: Andy Ruiz Down 25-Pounds, Eager To Bounce Back, Says Trainer

Heavyweight contender Andy Ruiz has lost 25-pounds and is currently on the road to making a big return, says trainer Jorge Capetillo. Ruiz has been out of the ring since December of 2019, when he lost a twelve round unanimous decision in a rematch with Anthony Joshua.

Not good for Ruiz to reduce weight as much as this coz it means reducing his advantage also. Same Andy Ruiz that fight Joshua should continue...

I agree. Genetically speaking Andy will never look like Joshua or a prime Evander Hollyfield but Andy doesn't need that either. However, considering how heavy he is, 25 pounds shouldn't be too bad as long as he doesn't lose any more.

I always liked the way ruiz can box. He has something magical in his arms and hands. Still, he needs to move on the ring to beat the likes of AJs. So the weight loss is a bless for him.

He was clinically obese, he still is... in no sport other than sumo etc is there any benefit to carrying 60 to 80lbs of pure fat.
Try strapping 80lbs to your self and boxing 12 rounds see how beneficial it is.

Fair play to Ruiz for attempting this come back and taking it very seriously, after earning $15mil from them 2 joshua fights he could have happily lived comfortably for the rest of his days. However hes going to have a dilema of finding worthy opponents, hes clearly shown what hes capable of to put other contenders off from sharing the ring with him unless its for A LOT of money.

Agreed....even if he wont look like Evander, he isnt just chubby anymore...in the rematch it looked like he could barely lift his thighs.

Also, both AJ and Parker outboxed him using a jab and movement...he hasnt shown any improvement in that regard.

Ortiz is a very good fight, doubt it gets made as Ortiz isnt really much of a draw and is still dangerous at his age (what ever that is). Styles make fights and I think Wilder is all wrong for Ruiz, Usyk would be a good fight again would be high risk with no belts on the line.
