Comments Thread For: Oscar Valdez: I'm Not Ducking Shakur Stevenson; Berchelt Is A Way Tougher Fight

Oscar Valdez gets aggravated every time he hears or reads that he is ducking Shakur Stevenson. The former WBO featherweight champion can't understand how Stevenson or anyone else could think he is avoiding Stevenson when Valdez has taken what he considers a more difficult fight against Miguel Berchelt. Valdez (28-0, 22 KOs) and Berchelt (38-1, 34 KOs) are set to fight February 20 at MGM Grand Conference Center in Las Vegas.

A fight with shakur is a fight the reynoso camp would call "boring" which translates to "he would make us look bad so we dont want to fight him".

When they say they aren't ducking, they are. Shakur doesn't hit hard, but he can make you stink. Fear of getting clowned?

He avoided him at 126. Then at 130 when Berchelt had to pull out last year Shakur offered to step in on short notice but Valdez wouldn't do it. Sounds like a duck to me. Bro running from him for real

Loma should fight winner of Berchelt vs. Valdez @ 130! Shakur will fight winner of Herring vs. Frampton @ 130! Winners should face each other! No promotional issues! Should be very easy to make in 2021!

No doubt Berchelt is a way tougher opponent, Even if Valdez was looking for the Stevenson fight, Bobby wouldn't allow it, if anybody is steering away from big challenges is Stevenson, I mean does anyone really believe that Stevenson is going to take on the winner of this fight?

Shakur Stevenson offers to replace Miguel Berchelt in Dec. 12 junior lightweight fight vs. Oscar Valdez

                    November 4, 2020:

Former featherweight world titlist Shakur Stevenson has publicly offered to face Oscar Valdez at junior lightweight on Dec. 12 after Valdez's original opponent, Miguel Berchelt, tested positive for COVID-19 on Tuesday.

Stevenson (14-0, 8 KOs) told ESPN he has informed his managers to inquire about the possibility of fighting Valdez in order to salvage the Top Rank card.

"I'm not saying he's scared or anything, but I don't think he likes my style, I think my style is too much for him," Stevenson said Wednesday. "I feel like right now it's the perfect opportunity to fight him. Valdez has been in full training camp preparing for Berchelt, but I don't think he should have to wait."

Stevenson, 23, insists he is in good enough shape to dive into a five-week training camp in order to prepare for Valdez.

"I've been in the gym staying in shape, so five weeks is perfect for me," he said.

Valdez (28-0, 22 KOs) was ordered to defend his WBO featherweight title against Stevenson last year, but ultimately vacated to begin his journey at lightweight.

Stevenson is coming off a sixth-round knockout victory over Felix Caraballo in the Top Rank bubble in June.

Valdez stopped Jayson Velez in July via 10th-round technical knockout in his first contest at lightweight.

Shakur Stevenson has publicly offered to face Oscar Valdez at junior lightweight on Dec. 12 after Valdez's original opponent, Miguel Berchelt, tested positive for COVID-19 on Tuesday.
