Liston wasn't trying to cheat against Ali. His corner used Monsel's solution to close a cut. They don't use it in corners anymore because it can irritate the eyes, but they used to.

There are all sorts of new training methods and nutrition strategies. But boxing skills have not evolved, they have devolved.

My only knock on breadman is he doesn't know as much as me lol kidding, nice mailbag though.

As far as the charlos I'm fan but it hasn't always been like that, I use to kinda hate on them especially when they were with GB and how slow they were being brought along, it's a good thing for them Haymon got em, thanks to schaefer lol that was so dirty. GB was too focused on pushing other talents while ignoring while ignoring the stable of Marquee fighters they had. I've noticed about myself I'll take a critical stance before anointing them.. that's how it was with Floyd, instead of hating I started wondering why no one could beat him so I started watching his fights closer. Charlos are legit and I'm looking forward to their future fights

I always found it odd how he was the most popular boxer despite never being the best boxer at any point.

                Liston's Linament

The linament on Liston's gloves could have affected him, NOT from Clay's eyes, but from Clay's gloves, which would have had far more transferre from Liston's gloves than from Clay's eyes.

And yes, According to RING Magazine, which I still have, Liston trained hard and was in top shape for the return. Clay was not just "ill, he had an appendix operation, according to RING.

You slide over Corrales' chin problem from the Mayweather "fight" without detailing, which you would have-if honest, all the viccissitudes suffered by Corrales in the eeks and nonths leading up to that "fight" which was a travesty long before it ever the contract was signed. The obscene advantage Mayweather took from a boxer fallen into despair, debt, family ruin, lail time and careless of his future. You are still a Mayweather spear carrier. You could have at least mentioned that Corrales was 10 lbs over the morning of the weigh-in, and had almost to be carried to the scales. T.K. Stewart covered this and that was what he basically said. Read it. But I'm sure you know it and avoid thinking about it.

You only mention him 4-5-6 times in this week's article, fewer than usual. You must be slipping. You didin't mention how Moore avoided giving Harold Johnson a title shot when he had matured both in experince and age, and was eventually stripped because of it.

Yes I know that Moore beat him 2-3 times...when he was a kid, and when Johnson was winning-going away etc. Your remarks about Robinson-Mazim are very astute and true. Robinson weighed inside the welterweight limit afte that fight, believ it or not. I bet you know this. Lost over 10 lbs., som was only a middle at fight time.

Anyway, other than what I mention above about your treatment of Corrales and his Mayweather "fight" I enjoy your column as usual.

Really? How can you say that honestly? His run from Olympic gold, through junior LW, into LW, beyond JCC at LWW and culminating in a belt at WW over Whitaker is one of the best 5 year stretches in history and already made him an ATG.

Not being the best boxer at any point? You’re out of your mind.
