Deines lost the IBF title eliminator to Fanlong Meng.

Meng became the IBF mandatory and was scheduled to fight Beterbiev.

The fight was delayed because of coronavirus.

The fight was then rescheduled for Russia.

Meng then backed out of the fight just weeks ago because of visa issues.

Beterbiev had to make a last minute opponent swap and picked the guy Meng beat in the title eliminator. He’s in this position because he was fulfilling a mandatory obligation.
