Comments Thread For: Hearn: Haney Is World's Best Lightweight But Has To Prove It - He Needs Breakout Bout

Matchroom Boxing head Eddie Hearn promotes Devin Haney, who has one of the highest ceilings of any young star in the sport. The 22-year-old Haney (25-0, 15 KOs) has been fighting as a professional since 2015. In April 2019, Haney signed with Hearn, and has since fought the likes of Antonio Moran, Zaur Abdullaev, Alfredo Santiago and Yuriorkis Gamboa under the banner of the British promoter.

Kinda hard to do that when you, as his promoter, behave like a jackass and feud with boxers like some kind of broke dyk wrestling manger

The best at what? Opening emails? He hit Gamboa with everything but the kitchen sink, and still couldn't drop him. Therefore, I think it's a little too soon to call him the best, especially considering how stacked 135 is right now.

Teofimo Lopez Sending Contract To Devin Haney For Next Fight
          January 11, 2021 l 24 Comments l by Albert Craine

WBC lightweight champion Devin ‘The Dream’ Haney (25-0, 15 KOs) will be receiving a contract offer IBF/WBA/WBC Franchise/WBO champion Teofimo Lopez for his next fight in April or May.

Haney, 22, is the backup insurance plan if Teofimo is unable to get the fight made with his main target, George Kambosos. It’s possible that Haney’s name is only being thrown in by Teofimo to get Kambosos not to ask for too much money.

If Kambosos knows that Teofimo has a high-profile option in Haney, he might not ask for as much dough.

Haney and Kambosos will both be getting contract offers for Teofimo’s next fight in late April or early May. Teofimo (16-0, 12 KOs) still doesn’t know the exact date yet for his fight, but he’ll find out soon.

The main thing is, Teofimo gets an opponent to sign so that he can move forward with his career. He says he wants to take on all the top guys at 135, but we’ll see if that happens...

“They’re all going to know. Why do you think Devin said April? Everything is already falling into place, ladies and gents,” said Teofimo.

Is this really credible though. I find it hard to believe.

Haney should've fought Campbell instead of Gamboa, now Hearn can try to steal Linares fight from Garcia, make Linares an offer that he cant refuse, but he wont do that, he doesnt care much about his non-british fighters

We'll see! I have a feeling they're going to lowball Haney then say " We offered him a contract, and he declined!" They have a history of such:

Shawn Porter Rejects $1 Million For Crawford Fight, ‘Don’t Lowball Me’

By Chris Williams: Shawn Porter says he won’t accept a $1 million “lowball” offer for a fight against Terence Crawford, and he feels he’s worth a lot more than that. Porter, 33, says he’ll 100% face Crawford in 2021 if the money is right, and it’ll be a “Fight of Te]he Year” candidate.

The former IBF/WBC welterweight champion Porter (31-3-1, 17 KOs) wants WBO 147-lb champion Crawford’s promoter Bob Arum to use a lowball offer as a method to get out of making the fight.

If $1 million is all Arum is willing to pay Porter for a fight against Crawford, it might not necessarily be a case him disinterest on his part. You have to remember that Arum recently said that he’d lost big money on some of Crawford’s recent fights.

So one way of making some of that money back would be to offer Porter $1 million for a fight with Crawford that would likely make a lot of money.

On the other hand, if Arum isn’t certain that Crawford vs. Porter would bring in a lot of revenue, making a lowball offer is understandable.

Porter Not Agreeing To $1 Million For Crawford Fight

“I’m not taking a million,” said Porter to The Porter Way Podcast. “I’ve done the best I could in sending a message to Bob Arum, and I also know people that know Bob.

“I’ve told them, ‘Tell Mr. Arum, I don’t mean any disrespect, and I know he doesn’t. If you’re going to low ball me, don’t do it. If you feel that’s how you get out of fighting me, that’s weak.

“Don’t do it. However, if you want to make the fight happen, don’t lowball me. I’m worth more than a million dollars. F a million dollars. I’m going to keep it as clean as possible, but I’m not fighting Terence Crawford for 1 million dollars,” said Porter.

If that’s all Top Rank is offering Porter is $1 million for a fight against Crawford, it’s clear that he’s on his way out the door with the promotional company.

It’s April because ESPN isn’t broadcasting boxing in March. Also, Haney can’t fight on ESPN so why is there even an offer ?

Teo was interviewed on talksport and said he would fight Haney next if his fight with Kambosa doesn’t go through. That’s the fight that they both need, but it Lomachenko is interested then that’s another option. But I wouldn’t be shocked if Haney end up fighting Fortuna.
