  • Comments Thread For: Teofimo Lopez vs. George Kambosos Title Fight Formally Ordered By IBF

Teofimo Lopez Jr. is now pressed with a deadline to honor his next mandatory obligation. The International Boxing Federation (IBF) has officially ordered a lightweight title fight between Lopez-as the defending champion-and unbeaten number-one contender George Kambosos Jr. The New Jersey-based sanctioning body notified both camps on Friday of a 30-day free negotiations period, during which time they are required to reach a deal to avoid a purse bid hearing.

The kid paid his sanctioning fees, fought his way up the IBF ladder. He’s earned his shot at the IBF title. It’s actually kind of nice that the IBF actually follows their rules and doesn’t string along their number 1 contenders for years until they get knocked out by some other fighter in a non title fight (*ahem* Dillian Whyte, Ajose Oleguson) and instead makes the fights they are paid to make by the fighters paying fees to their organization.

Teo won the title v Commey, had a voluntary defense against Loma, and won. Now it’s time to honor the mandatory and defend. I’d love to see Teo blow this mfer out so we can make the Haney fight, or something better, but I ain’t gonna blame the IBF for giving a fighter a chance (that he literally PAID for).

Truer words have never been spoken.
I hope this kid comes to fight. A lot of Aussie guys get wiped off the floor when they come stateside.
Or Team Teo and Team Haney/Garcia/Tank can offer him step-aside money with a guarantee that he gets the next shot wants Teo blasts out Haney/Garcia.

                Exactly this...

Kambosos ain’t that bad though tbf. He’s a pretty good fighter for an IBF mando.

they're bad rankings, cause nobody wants to fight for them cause of the responsibility it comes with it

So we do Loma then next this?? Ughhh Kambosos looked like ass his last fight. So sick of the pay for play ranking systems.

Funny thing is out of all the sanctioning bodies the IBF seems to follow there own rules the best. Now their rankings are suspect like the others. In fact I wish all fighters would refuse all the sanctioning bodies and throw in support for just one. One champ per division.
