Comments Thread For: De La Hoya: I Think Ryan Garcia Walks Right Through Tank Davis; I Really Do

There was a time when Oscar De La Hoya wasn't nearly this confident about how Ryan Garcia would fare versus Gervonta Davis. Based on Garcia's considerable improvement while working with trainer Eddy Reynoso, though, "The Golden Boy" doesn't think the undefeated Davis would stand a chance against the fighter his company promotes. De La Hoya primarily mentioned Davis during a press conference Thursday as the lightweight champion he wants Garcia to fight "when" Garcia beats Luke Campbell on Saturday in Dallas.

I dont know that this fight happens yet. Im more confident that a fight with Teo and with Haney has a better chance. I wish Tank would be more active and actually fight somebody. That said for the DMV including the DC and Baltimore area a Tank Davis- Gary Russel Jr sells like crazy. And if Tank fought at 130 and put both the 130 and 135 belts on the line its a fairly decent large fight

Garcia has to get through his fight before making any of these assumptions. Once he fights a fighter with real skills and better defense he won't be getting these quick knock outs.

The Velez fight gave some answers on him going to distance

What a loada chit. This kunt don’t even know what gender he dresses in, this little twig would go over very quickly.
I think Davis is Very good but easily hit and this little 8 year old looking ponk ain’t got the tools to go through anything like it.
The “golden” smak head should lay off the chisel.

If you go back 12 years when Oscar was still fighting and co-promoting Floyd’s fights, you’ll understand the dislike most people have for Oscar.

He said the same exact things about Victor Ortiz, Mosley, Marquez, Cotto, Guerrero, Berto etc .... that “I really believe he will beat Mayweather”.

Oscar is no different from Don King or Bob Arum. He is a hypocrite.

More important, in life we don’t have to meet someone to know they are asshöles. Their actions sun them up.

Millions have never met Trump, but they have strong opinions about him.

To each their own I guess. I just don’t understand how people can get so emotionally invested in someone that doesn’t know you and doesn’t give two s h I t s about you either. I mean cmon, to express real rage towards someone you’ve never met? That’s borderline needing therapist.

In addition, that’s what he is supposed to say. That’s his job as a promoter, to say bull s h I t or half truths to amp up the public and garner interest. What would we expect him to say that Tank would beat his a s s ? Or don’t waste your money because I’ve got a garbage fighter? Some folks just need to sit back and do a little critical thinking on why things would be said. Applying 2% brain power to what was said here would conclude of course he said what he said he’s a freaking boxing promoter lol.

People vent all the time about crooks like Don King and Bob Arum. Social Media has just given people a platform to do that.
People that are invested in boxing are no different from those invested in politics (or anything else). Go online and see how they express real rage towards politicians that lie all the time. It’s the same thing.

Personally, I thought Oscar would be different and so did many. He fought for Top Tank and Arum was a turd to him so he left to start on his own. He marketed himself as honest and different but he wasn’t.

I’m just playing the devils advocate. Nobody wants to pay too $$ for mismatches. We want the best fights to get made, period.

Oscar makes very little sense these days. I fully understand why Canelo left , he could no longer stand the embarrassment.
