  • Comments Thread For: Povetkin Doing Light Training, Expects To Be Ready For Whyte By Early Spring

WBC interim-heavyweight champion Alexander Povetkin believes that he will likely be ready to have a rematch with Dillian Whyte by the beginning of spring. Back in August, Povetkin pulled off one of the biggest shockers of the year when he knocked Whyte out cold with a tremendous uppercut in the fifth round of their fight.

Povetkin is the more proven fighter and the rematch is for the WBC mandatory position. Ortiz has turned down fight offer from Whyte in the past. The myth of Ortiz being a boogieman is gone. Whyte gets hate because he called out stork legs. It's ridiculous. The sport needs more fighters like Whyte. He's been taking risky fights when he didn't need to. He could have followed the Tyson Fury road and fought garbage until he got his title shot.

Can't wait for that rematch. That fight should happen in Match/April and Whyte shouldn't fight anyone else till then. Povetkin is going to have a lot more confidence and momentum and Whyte will be more focused. It's going to be a really good fight!

Great post man! he's been the one doing all the hard work in the division and fighting top 10 contender after the other instead of taking advantage of his mandatory position and waiting for the title shot. He improved a lot as a fighter as a result too and I think he can put on a great performance and win in the rematch. Ortiz is irrelevant now as far as I'm concerned, he needs to beat someone with a pulse again to put himself back in the top 5 mix, a fight against Ruiz would be a great cross roads fight for both, something we haven't seen in a long time.

                  True.

But at least he didn't quit in the ring like AJ and Dubois...

He was offered his title shot last year, and turned it down like the coward he is.

                    Get a clue.
