Comments Thread For: De La Hoya: Garcia In Different Category Than Campbell's Used To, Can Even Stop Him

Oscar De La Hoya envisions Ryan Garcia handling Luke Campbell like none of the British southpaw's previous opponents. Garcia's promoter predicted during a virtual press conference recently that Garcia's uncommon combination of speed and power will be too much for the 2012 Olympic gold medalist January 2. Campbell battled Vasiliy Lomachenko in his last bout, but De La Hoya expects Garcia to conquer Campbell even easier than when the Ukrainian southpaw out-pointed him unanimously 15 months ago at O2 Arena in London.

One thing Luke won't be is reckless. And Garcia will have to show all those different level attributes to get the win

Luke will be a good test for Garcia but I do see Garcia knocking him out at some point. Garcia has a strong amateur pedigree and has good speed and power. I think Garcia will catch Campbell at some point and end the fight

Now I know what Oscar thinks........... I see the fight as being and this is on a fan's side of it very solid support no matter which fighter you are leaning towards. I don't see a lot of the middle of the road fans on this one, which usually tells that it is a good match up as far as the fight getting eye's on it. Just get the feel that people either like or have no use for Garcia. On the Campbell side he carries the fighter history with him, got the Olympics, the two or three fights with known fighters, goes rounds, takes the fight game serious all those type things. I could be wrong but Garcia has been built up on a dif stage way dif stage then "Cool Hand Luke". Luke has the rounds with fighters that have earned respect and are solid all around fighters. Garcia being a K.O. artist is not what I see from him. Tale of the tape what stands out ? Probably rounds and age to me. If the rounds that Luke has fought and his has aged well, learned from his past fights it will turn his way. Flip side the oppisite. Oscar is a promoter first in this one so what he says is for that reason. So lets televise the card from Japan on New Years Eve and then slip this one in and we can start off the year on a good note and have a nice follow thru.
But I just enjoy fights, good fights leave nothing in doubt fights.

Ryan reminds me of Prince Naseem. Young and strong, good enough to get past the B team, but he's not doing it right. He's not boxing, he doesn't use angles, he moves in straight lines. Campbell should be able to get some traction on boxing skill alone. The problem is, Luke is on the other side of the hill, his attitude is fatalistic. He's been bested and now he's worried about what Ryan has, and less confident of what he can do. Ryan can't box as good as Linares, forget Loma.

Ryan had trouble with a C-plus - B Class fighter Jason Velez, put Ryan under pressure and people will realize that Ryan been a hype job starting from the AMATEURS!! I strongly believe that's it's going to be a long night for Ryan!

Garcia might look bad in the late rounds it's been a long minute since gone more than a few.
