Comments Thread For: WBC: Sor Rungvisai To Keep Mandatory Status, Gets To Fight Estrada-Gonzalez Winner

Consider the developing scenario in the 115-pound division as one organization's continued attempt to prove they are different from the rest. Promoter Eddie Hearn pleased the sport's hardcore fan base with a dream rematch finalized between lineal junior bantamweight champion and WBC titlist Juan Francisco Estrada and WBA 115-pound title claimant Roman Chocolatito' Gonzalez. The bout-which comes more than eight years after their November 2012 war -will take place March 13, 2021 at a location to be determined but with the full support of the WBC.

Damn, so either Estrada fights Cuadras, Chocolatito and Rungvisai in consecutive fights or Gonzalez unifies then fights the rubber match against the guy who knocked him out.

Would love to see Chocolatito get his just due in a trilogy with SR. He shoulda got the first one. He was a broken fighter in the rematch & after that I thought we’d never see him again.

Sadly I don’t think he has enough left in his tank to get past Estrada. I love him for going for it though. Even if he were to get past Estrada, beating SR as well would be a tall task

WBC being willing to announce and step towards a mandatory.

WBO being willing to do it for their heavyweights.

Yet WBO refuses to do it for welterweight (Rungvisai didn't call anyone out, he didn't need to, the org put it forward to make it happen).

At some point I really wish there were consistency with the orgs.

Damn, Estrada has been going through hell and back lately. SSR x2, Cuadras Rematch, Gonzalez Rematch that could potentially lead to the SSR Trilogy. Beast

Although I thought rungvisai won the first Gonzalez fight, the second left no doubt! However I agree it's likely that, at this point in time, Gonzalez is going to struggle against Estrada. But Estrada has had a tough run of fights so who knows? The winner against rungvisai is a good fight too although, at 34, his peak is almost certainly past too!

This is one of those RARE cases where two fighters are fighting for a second time and the guy waiting will be fighting a winner for a trilogy no matter who the winner is.
