Comments Thread For: Canelo On Fighting Plant Or Saunders: I'll Adapt To Any Style, Be The Winner

SAN ANTONIO Two of Canelo Alvarez's potential opponents for his likely fight early in May have vastly different styles than Callum Smith. Alvarez nevertheless expressed confidence during a post-fight press conference early Sunday morning regarding possible bouts against left-handed Billy Joe Saunders and right-handed Caleb Plant, both terrific technical fighters. England's Saunders, the WBO super middleweight champion, and the United States' Plant, the IBF 168-pound champ, each would provide Alvarez a chance to add one of the two remaining super middleweight titles he needs to become the undisputed champion in that division.

People are all waiting behind their screens to accuse Canelo of ducking....he didnt fight Plant/Charlo/Saunders/Benavidez/Borat...

Yes, Canelo can only fight 1 guy at a time but also notice none of the above guys are fighting each other. They are all taking softer touches and trying to hit the Canelo lottery.

Canelo has said he wans to unify at 168. That means if Charlo or Borat or any other fighter wants Canelo then they need to get a belt at 168. Otherwise STFU

That is always with any top fighter. Even if he beats all the top fighters from 154 to 175 they are always going to dig up some fighter that he avoided or ducked.

Canelo vs benavidez would be the toughest for nelo followed by plant. I dont have faith in bjs about as much as i did smith which was none.

I just hope he doesnt keep Canelo fighting a bunch of Brits who are no hopers Saunders is a no hoper in my book. Canelo will walk him down. I want to see GGG3, Beterbiev, Bivol, and Benavidez. Maybe Plant. The rest like Charlo, Andrade, Saunders all need to fight each other.

I want either Benavidez or Charlo to fight Plant, and BJ Saunders vs. Boo Boo Andrade! Seems Canelo has to fight Yildrim first anyway!

Vacant WBC Title Officially On The Line In Canelo Alvarez vs Callum Smith Showdown
                    Boxing Insider
                    December 11, 2020:

“The WBC is extremely proud to have such tremendous fight for the vacant WBC Super-Middleweight title,” said WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman. “Canelo and Callum will give the world a superb closing of a difficult year and will make fans from around the world celebrate with much entertainment and enjoyment. I would like to personally praise Avni Yildirim for his exemplary collaboration to make this a reality.”

The praise heaped on the shoulders of Avni Yildirim is due to his willingness to step aside and allow Smith and Alvarez to compete for the world title. As the number one mandatory challenger, Yildirim was set to take on then-champion David Benavidez. Those plans were immediately scrapped however as Benavidez lost his title on the scales. From there, Alvarez and Yildirim were set to go through with a purse bid so that the two could battle it out for the vacant title. Yet, with Alvarez dealing with legal issues stemming from a contract dispute with former promoter Oscar De La Hoya and Golden Boy Promotions as well as streaming company DAZN, Yildirim was forced to sit patiently on the sidelines.

With Alvarez getting past his legal woes, he opted to bypass Yildirim and take on Smith instead in a much more high profile matchup, his first of the year. To help placate Yildirim’s sacrifices, the winner of Alvarez vs Smith will be given a deadline of 90 days to take him on.
