Comments Thread For: Canelo Could Face Yildirim Sometime In February If He Beats Callum Smith

SAN ANTONIO Following a 13-month layoff, Canelo Alvarez wouldn't mind a quick turnaround after facing Callum Smith on Saturday night. Alvarez told BoxingScene.com and The Athletic during a joint interview Thursday that he is open to returning to the ring as early as sometime in February if he beats Smith and leaves the ring relatively unscathed. Eddie Hearn, whose Matchroom Boxing is promoting Alvarez for the Smith fight, revealed later Thursday that Alvarez could make a mandatory defense of the WBC super middleweight title against Avni Yildirim just two months after meeting Smith.

Won't complain if he fights Plant, Saunders or Charlo in Cinco de Mayo next.

          I’m ok with that. He’s fought/fighting the #1 ranked guy at 160,168, and 175.

I am as well, especially considering the quick turnaround. Part of the tradeoff of seeing top guys fight more frequently is that there will be stay-busy fights too.

I agree. I wish these other boxers were held to the same standard as Canelo. He’s the only one fighting the top level guys. These other boxers won’t even fight each other because they are scared to lose and miss out on a Canelo payday. Canelo seems to be the only one chasing greatness.

I will give him a pass if the turn around is so soon.

To be fair, Canelo is also in a position where everybody wants to fight him as well. With that being said, I do believe that he wants to use that position to make the best fights instead of downplaying his top competition (or pretending they don't exist) like Terrence Crawford and Errol Spence Jr. are doing with each other.
