Muhammad Ali lost to Frazier yet he was still the best in the division. Ray Robinson lost Jake LaMotta yet he was still the best in the division. Ray Leonard lost to Duran yet he was still the best in the division. I am not even counting the fights where champions won a controversial decision and yet were considered the best in their division. You're wrong on every one. Robinson was a welterweight when he lost to Lamotta who was a middleweight. They were in two different divisions.

Ali was not considered the best in the division when he lost to Frazier. Joe Frazier was. Duran was considered the best in the division when he beat Leonard.

What weight class does Benevidez fight at? Last I could tell is he can’t make SMW. So which weight class is it?

Meh, he didn't miss weight by that much. I do agree he is sizing out but he has a couple fights left at SMW that I think would get him up to make weight.

That said, that Smith fight was terrible. In hindsight, Avni would have made a better foe. A great highlight reel KO, coming forward and making himself open the whole way. Smith fight mattered more but would have been nice to get a highlight KO on the big stage ala Kirkland.
