Comments Thread For: Mike Tyson: Gods Of War Revived Me For Jones, My Skills Are Good Enough

Mike Tyson claims he had a come-to-Jesus moment that eventually led him to fighting Roy Jones Jr. "Old guys, that word don't even make sense," Tyson told Jim Gray in an interview that aired on Westwood One Sports radio. "Old? This is just a new time, a new thinking period in our lives. This is what we want to do. Sometimes the gods of war, they revive you and say, You have to do more.' Now I wouldn't do it if I didn't prepare for this. You know, I box people to see if I'm able to do this stuff, so I can do this stuff."

Tyson has been smoking too much of that weed he has been selling. The "Gods of War" is weed, weed and more weed. His boxing skills are great where they are and that's on ESPN classic. He maybe good for a few rounds but that's it. He needs a real reality check.

Can't believe Roy is the underdog in this fight.

Much is made about Roy having been active but I dont know how much that matters given the size difference and mike's power which is the last to go.

I just watched Roys last fight in 2018, against a journeyman and it looked like a sparring session / exhibition match. The guy was clearly given his marching orders, this is Roy's farewell fight, let him get off a few and give the crowd one last Roy fight. He was even holding back from throwing with full power on inside body punches in the clinch.

Roys best boxing success in the last 10 years was going the distance with a shop worn Hopkins.

I think Tyson can pressure, close the distance and land on him and it will be lights out, Roys chin and legs are gone. Tyson is gone too dont get me wrong he gets leveled by any top 100 or top 200 heavyweight. But I think he catches Roy and he still will have power.

Whatever happens, I hope both of them dont continue fighting, either one wins and feels like they "still have it" they are just going to get KTFO and that is bad news for a 50 year old brain.

There is no way this is an actual fight where they throw meaningful punches....I could be wrong though.

I love these guys, really appreciate their characters and would love to hang out with them for a day if I could, but these Gods of War talks......come on, they are so past it, it's not even funny.....and there really isn't any way Tyson can resume a pro career. But, hey, let them make this one last payday and have fun with this thing as long as no one gets hurt bad!

I bet the majority on here were not watching boxing in Mikes hay day, these are the ones that probably mock him now . Mike is going to wreck Jones easily and I wouldn’t count on this fight making it into round 3 . You always know when Mike is on point watching him throughout his career, he looks insanely sharp for a guy who hasn’t had a fight forever ,he would defeat the majority of top guys now given real training camps and active fights .

Mikes CAT scan says otherwise , according to Tyson his doctors told him his brain is as preserved as any current fighter and said his skull is twice as thick as the average person . That is what would determine wheather a person of older age could perform at optimal level and I haven’t seen any current fighter looking as good on video . Yes on video but there was never a time MIke didn’t show up in what you saw .

The simple fact is people are forgetting he’s one of the most destructive heavyweight fighters of all time averaging 3 rounds a fight when he went for the kill and standing in front of him is Roy Jones not a killer heavyweight which would be needed to even get out of the first couple rounds .
