By Lyle Fitzsimmons - A famous person unexpectedly dies. And the immediate inclination for the geniuses in my line of work is to assemble something that's both worthy of an undisputed profundity championship, and gets posted 30 seconds before the guy's at the wannabe website down the street. Sometimes they make for entertaining read...

Growing up, he lived in johnson projects on lexington ave in east harlem a few blocks from me. He used to drive by in a grey corvette that had the words "macho time", with a small pair of boxing gloves below it, painted on the side near the rear window. It made me feel proud to see a champ from my neighborhood, and it inspired me to go to the gym. A kid i grew up with used to fight a lot, and he ran up on camacho in the street and challenged him to a fight. Ppl broke it up, so nothing happened. My friend was very confident but camacho was just too fast. It would have been ugly. R.I.P. champ

Best article you’ve written. I didn’t get a chance to see his fights but I’ll be watching them today.

Classic example of a highly skilled fighter who couldn't get out of his own way.

Bazooka Limon and Jose Luis Ramirez were a few levels above Freddie Roach, don't you think, Lyle?

Camacho lived a wild lifestyle. Had so much natural talent and the fact that he was able to achieve what he did in his career while being a raging drug addict shows how talented he was.

Camacho was a talent wasted. Loved watching footage of him in his prime. He was a lightening fast skilled fighter. Grew up in Spanish Harlem. Loved whenever he came through in his drop top. He used to leave his belt on the dashboard while he visited his son, mother of his child, family, friends, and fans. I wish the demons never got a hold of him.

Limon won a world championship twice.

Freddie Roach never even came close once.
