Comments Thread For: Canelo: The Goal Was To Be a Free Agent, Not The Money

This past Friday, the boxing world was set on fire when it was officially confirmed that Mexican superstar Saul "Canelo" Alvarez had become a free agent. In 2018, Canelo had signed an exclusive deal with streaming service DAZN. The deal was worth $365 million, for 11 fights over a five year period.

It was pretty clear to me that he was trying to get out of his contract with Golden boy and DAZN. No way they were getting the money they were asking for in the lawsuit. I think things played out well for Canelo and I hope they go out there and make the fights we're really interested in. This guy has a chance to go down as the best Mexican fighter ever and he can do it in 4-5 fights. He has all the tools.

Of course! This is prizefighting, so it's never about money.

Canelo made the right decision. He’s outgrown Oscar. He doesn’t need him anymore and Oscar is a liability these days.

Secondly, DAZN’s boxing experiment has been disastrous so far, they can’t get the big fights done, they’ve hired unqualified personnel, and they were essentially looking to shelve Canelo as they can’t afford to pay his guarantee.

Not a fan of Canelo, but I respect his decision.

I'm looking forward to the Plant fight. Say what you want about Canelo but he takes risks. That's all I really ask for from fighters.

In other words “reynoso and his pops got what they were after, in his pocket three different ways”. Should be interesting should any of his fights go to the cards without sulaiman, oscar and co pulling strings.

I thought Canelo should of dumped Oscar in 2013 when Oscar checked himself into rehab the night before the Mayweather fight. Biggest night of his life at the time and his promotor checks himself into rehab???
