  • Comments Thread For: Gervonta Davis: My Arms Are Open If Floyd Wants To Work Corner Saturday Night

SAN ANTONIO Floyd Mayweather was much more involved than usual in Gervonta Davis' preparation for his fight against Leo Santa Cruz. Mayweather, whose company promotes Davis, played an active role in Davis' training camp at Mayweather's gym in Las Vegas, where Davis spent more than three months getting ready for this 130-pound title fight. Davis and his head trainer, Calvin Ford, would welcome Mayweather into the Baltimore native's corner Saturday night, but it hadn't been determined as of Friday morning if Mayweather would do that.

I don’t care what Gervonta’s head coach says he doesn’t want Mayweather in his corner taking his shine

If it ain't broke don't fix it. Floyd is a legend but idk that I want him in my corner yelling over the guys who've gotten me where I am over the last two decades or whatever.

If Floyd works the corner it’ll be for the limelight. Kind of a slap in the face to Tanks actual trainers

If I was a fighter, I would never have someone in my corner that would make every situation about him and not me

Panda, you hit the nail on the head. If Floyd shows in the corner it is for publicity and that's all. That's schitting all over Calvin Ford.
            Who ya got?

Completely agree. Calvin Ford is an underrated trainer and motivator.

I'm thinking it'll be LSC's volume vs Tank's power early. I think LSC could eek out some early rounds & make it competitive for awhile. I don't think LSC has been in with the accuracy & power of a guy like Tank. I think that'll catch up with LSC & he'll get into survival mode to lose a decision or get stopped late.

If Tank's cardio sh^ts the bed LSC has an opening to upset him. I think Tank took this fight too seriously for that to happen is the thing. Who knows, that's why they do it.

Seen you got LSC. Good luck.

Almost every fighter Floyd faced complimented him on how he controls fights, tempo, pace, his overall boxing IQ, ring generalship. I saw Andre Berto on YouTube break it down thoroughly on how Floyd maneuvers fighters in all aspects during a fight to manipulate them and take control of what they do, while taking away what they do best. It’s the overall experience and knowledge that Floyd has and how he makes adjustments during a fight that only an undefeated, future HOF’er, in multiple weight classes, fighting on the biggest stage could help Tank with.

Now I do agree that Ford should be the main voice but even he admitted, he is smart enough to take signals and advice from Floyd during fights. With that being said, I do think Floyd should stay near the corner and not be in the corner. But I wouldn’t dismiss anything Floyd said if I was a fighter. I would welcome it.
