Comments Thread For: WBC Prez: If Lopez Beats Lomachenko, He's In A Special Place On His Own

The designation of Saul Canelo' Alvarez and Vasiliy Lomachenko as "Franchise" champions is a reflection of all that the two have previously achieved. In the case of Teofimo Lopez, such consideration is more of an investment into the future. A new precedent will be set this weekend when Lomachenko and Lopez collide in their multi-belt

Yes he will be in a special place but that new place will be at the 140 division with a L on his record and his dad sacked as his coach so he can focus on being a dad. Whatever he did he made his son have a breakdown live whilst filming.

Every time Lopez gets turned and countered he will be telling himself “ damn daddy didn’t tell me what to do in this scenario”.lopez will stop throwing after 9 rounds and sack his dad live on air when he delivers his losers speech with his mask on

N.b imagine catching Corona via the number of right hands you took to the face. The first boxers get. Covid 19 in the mouth

    The End

The dad stuff is crazy - In that Blood Sweat and Tears production Lopez all but said he was done with his father as a trainer. This is not good for the dynamic in his corner, come fight night.

Sounds like Arum and now Sulaiman are installing Lopez as the next WBC franchise to tap into that Mexican market. Is the fix in?

That might be good for him! It was good for Roy Jones Jr. too!

Life Without Father : After Split, Roy Jones Jr. Fights On Without Roy Jones Sr. in His Corner

            November 17, 1994:

In quieter times, Jones would describe growing up under his father’s iron glove. How his dad would drop to his knees and box his young son to test his character. Roy Jr. would retreat to bed crying after some of the beatings, represented to him at the time as training.

Sometimes, if he got out of line during a workout, Jones said his father would rap him on the thighs with a piece of pipe. Jones considered running away but had no destination. Jones considered taking his life but knew that was not the answer.

Having survived, Jones acknowledges he emerged stronger and wiser. The torment no doubt made him mentally tougher as a boxer.

But he and his father were on a collision course.

“When you deal with your family, sometimes it is hard to understand,” Jones said a few weeks ago at his training camp in Great Gorge, N.J. “Sometimes one person wants to be in control and then another person wants all that control.”

The article is a good read! One thing I do remember about Lopez Sr., is that he said he would move his son to 140 if they couldn't fight Loma in 2019! Now we are at the end of 2020! I wonder if Junior made that decision?

That's the sad part! Fans complain about the paths young fighters like Tank & Kingry have taken, yet they also seem to dislike young guys who want the big fights now like Lopez and Boots Ennis! The irony is that Lomachenko was 25 in his pro debut! Nobody seems to have a problem with him fighting amateurs until 25, but Teofimo is fighting Loma at 23! Who cares if he loses, I salute him for seeking to be great!

A Nice piece. I didn’t know about Roy and his past, I’m into so many different sports that I don’t have time to invest time into their past or Focus on them as individuals. Thanks for the insight

The moment mauricio sulaiman opens his mouth you know something is wrong, you instinctively know that he has either done something, or plans to do something shady that will in the end injure and damage the integrity of the sport.
