The opponent in mind has changed, but the goal remains the same for Ruben Villa as was the case at the start of the year. Weeks of patiently wading through the ugly side of the sport's politics paid off for the unbeaten featherweight contender, who will now challenge for his first world title. Villa initially figured for such an opportunity to come versus two-time Olympian and 2012 Olympic Bronze medalist Michael Conlan.

Villa is a solid contender but I don't think he's quite ready for Navarrete (on paper). Stranger things have happened and as invested as they are in Villa's career, I doubt they'd throw him in with Navarrete thinking he'd get blown out.

What I do know and see from Villa is he works behind the jab, counters well, and uses the ring effectively. He lacks the power (or so it appears) but he's accurate and that could spell trouble for pretty much anybody.

I don't see it in Villa to be overly enamored by Navarrete's power and reputation and not be focused on winning. This is a big step up for him and I'm sure he's gonna bring it this Friday!

I can’t believe we have ppl here thinking Villa is gonna beat Navarrete but I think that’s because they’ve only seen him in his last two fights where he took it easy on the easy compe but when he faced Dogboe twice he’s a wrecking machine.

I like villa I’ll give him a couple early rds but after that Navarrete is gonna whoop him badly.

                This is the pros buddy.

Ramirez also whooped Stevenson and ahkmodov yet in the pros he’s looked like garbage.
