    Johnson Inspired by Maskaev Win

Heavyweight contender Kirk Johnson feels inspired by the recent title victory of Oleg Maskaev. Johnson holds a 4-round knockout victory over Maskaev, but like Maskaev, he's been trying to rebuild his career after battling with injuries and suffering three crushing defeats. The last defeat, to Javier Mora, was recently changed to a no-contest by the California State Athletic Commission. [details]

The difference is Johnson WAS a legit contender, where the other 2 never were.

johnson is a very underrated fighter, He has only been beaten once, that was due to a lack of training. Of all the current champs, Wlad my be the only one who can outbox him.

johnson was pathetic against javier mora, who is essentially nobody

he was fading fast as a result of his obesity and may have lost the fight if he want clumsy enough to fall and bust his knee and bail himself out

He is indeed a skilled fighter with power and fast hands, but to say only one fighter can outbox him, is grossly overrating him.

THe Johnson/Klitchko match, was this the fight where Larry Merchant said "The Whale has been harpooned!"?
