  • Comments Thread For: David Morell Has Huge Goals For Career, Eyes November Return

Rising contender David Morell is not getting a big head and is keeping his feet firmly planted to the ground. Just a few weeks ago he became an interim-WBA 168-pound champion, but he is not confused by the sparkle of his new belt. He is still the same young man full of dreams who arrived from Cuba full of illusions, without forgetting those who extended a hand to him.

That's my boy Morell. Keep your feet on the ground, level headed and shoot for the stars. You are young, one of the few lucky Cubans that came to the pro with the right age. Keep up the hard work and discipline.

Looks promising. Needs to be developed like everybody else though.

He has the fundamentals, with right coaching and discipline, the sky is the limit. He has 137 amateur fights and only 3 professional fights. Time is on his side and just made a formidable jump on his third fight.

Very skilled and still young could end up being the best Cuban since Joel Casamayor if he keeps it up.

I think he can surpass him. He is younger than Casamayor when he defected. Doesn't have the miles that Joel has in the amateurs, only 135-2. Although I have to say, Casamayor adapted to the pro game very quickly. He has his defense but would go for broke if he got you hurt. Just like Gamboa but more responsible. Still the Miami nights did a number on him by 30 to 32 he was in decline, fast. Dorticos has done very well too, just Hernandez, now retired because of injuries, Gomez was a beast at CW too.

Yeah that's what I mean he can become a star because he entered the pro game young unlike his countrymen. To me Casamayor was the best because he was a multi-division champion that fought some tough names and beat most of them and never backed down from a challenge he was was also very tricky and a southpaw at that. To me the one who has come closest to Casamayor is Erislandy Lara but his career has stalled a lot and he is on the decline Yuri Gamboa is probably my favorite of the recent champions but he was too entertaining for his own good and it ended up costing him in some fights.

Very true though Casamayor let the drinking consume him and it let to his downfall he could've continued fighting if his head was in it. Yoan Pablo Hernandez was a skilled CW but yeah injuries got the best of him although I read he is making a comeback his half brother is UFC Middleweight Yoel Romero who is still fighting. Gomez was good but he should have stayed at CW he was too small for HW.

Right on it. Erislandy has accomplished a lot but too skillful and will make look bad anyone that fights him. Not too many elite fighters were willing to face him back when he was in his prime. Gamboa lost his prime do to wrong decisions and bad management. Also his fight against Lopez never materialize. Missing the stardom because arum wanted to "marinate". He ain't a chef. Mickey didn't want to face him, and he was his mandatory.

He will be World Champion before his 5th Pro Fight I'm Calling it Right Now!

He will be WBA Mandatory after beating Lennox Allen and I don't think they will hold him back if...when the WBA order him to fight Callum Smith

You can seen the talent and the skills and why exactly they're fast tracking him straight to the top

Morell is still some time away from competing with the top dogs at SMW. Still has some amateur tendencies to get rid of. No need to rush this guy as he has plenty of time.
