  • Comments Thread For: Braekhus Expects Katie Taylor To 'Edge' Delfine Persoon In Rematch

Cecilia Braekhus envisions Katie Taylor's rematch with Delfine Persoon unfolding similarly to their first fight. Ireland's Taylor beat Belgium's Persoon by majority decision in their 10-round lightweight title unification fight in June 2019 at Madison Square Garden in New York. Their closely contested slugfest seemingly could've gone either way, yet two judges scored it for Taylor and one had it even (96-94, 96-94, 95-95).

SKYSPORTS : Adam Smith, Matthew Macklin, Paulie Malignaggi, David Haye had Delfine Persoon winning. Katie Taylor can not call herself the 'Undisputed' women's champion of the world.

44-1-0, should be Persoon record. AND THE NEW!

Crediting Katie's team with the respect they dererve, I feel in no doubt that she was well aware that fighting Define Persoon would involve physical challenges beyond anything she had faced before. By listening to Katie's pre-fight comments, she had came out and stated that Delfine was a fantastic long reigning world champion who would present her with the toughest challenge of her career.

I tend to agree with Cecilia however that Katie was nonetheless in shock once the initial exchanges unfolded and she began to feel the magnitude of the power Delfine actually possessed. Katie looked visibility taken aback by Delfine's ultra high level and almost unwomanly levels of physical fitness and strength. She was rattled, distressed, bewildered and at times plain frightened by the intensity and strength of Define.

I very much look forward to seeing what strategy she has devised to try and evade and nullify her opponents clear physical advantages in strength, toughness and fitness, as these advantages will be incredibly difficult to overcome. I don't however agree with Cecilia that Katie will find a way, as I honestly believe that Delfine will ultimately be too strong for Katie to contain and will manage to overpower Katie and win the fight.
