Comments Thread For: Erislandy Lara Training Hard, Coach Feels He Can Extend Career Like Hopkins

WBA "regular" junior middleweight champion Erislandy Lara is back to training hard, as he waits to receive word on his next ring return. If a last minute change does not occur, Lara (26-3-3, 15 KO) should be returning to the ring in late August or early September as part of the series of cards to land on Fox Sports from Premier Boxing Champions.

If his hugging, fouling and running are up to par in his 50s, sure he can.

When Haymon and Shields saw Lara’s style against Canelo they advised him to never again run up on Canelo at press conferences...

Yup... who do you think influenced Lara to do that against GBP? lol

Lara is no defensive genius like Hopkins. Lara uses his legs way too much and he depends on his legs for all of his defense. He runs in circles stops lets opponent throw punches and he tries to cover up. He throws a 1, 2 and then starts running again. Rinse and repeat.

I was thinking the same, won’t be able to rely on his legs at top level much past 40.

Perfect time for Lara vs. Hurd 2, or Lara vs. J-Rock!

Yeah most boxers have either given up on the dream or made their money by then. I'm gonna guess it's hard being middle class as a pro boxer.
