Comments Thread For: Stephen Espinoza: Market Will Respond To Showtime PPVs

Showtime announced its return to boxing with a strong nine-card slate last week that will be spread out through the rest of the year. Two of the events will be available exclusively on Showtime pay per view. The first is the day-night, PPV twin billing between Jermall Charlo and Sergiy Derevyanchenko as well as twin brother Jermell Charlo versus Jeison Rosario. It will take place Sept. 26 and feature a total of six fights throughout the day for one price and purchase. The other PPV will pit Gervonta Davis against Leo Santa Cruz on Oct. 24.

I like these fights but still feels a bit iffy throwing them on PPV. If anything, this would seem like a good opportunity to put on a PPV at a slightly lower price point & see how things shake out.

$80/$90 Ppv fights w/o true star headliners during record unemployment and an on-going pandemic - thanks Showtime!! Stank v smaller, slow, pillow-fisted, past his prime Lsc is a mismatch that belongs on Fox!!! Good opponents for the Charlos....but ppv?? Should have been on regular Showtime.

He talks about how hard things are but then goes on to say the PPV prices will remain the same. And so will your low PPV buys. Not one star fighter on that PPV, decent fights with widely unpopular fighters. Smells like success, smh

If TR and Matchroom/DAZN keep putting up the same type fights it will sell. It is not a question of if it will sell or how many buys but if the cards even hold up. Look at baseball look at TR cards are still problems that could derail these fights and add injuries, conflicts with contracts all the usual mix. So if it all comes together and they add one or two solid lead in fights it will sell. Every sport is treating fans like yesterdays garbage, it is not exclusive to boxing. Boxing is just better at doing it without any concerns for what the fans thinks or says. Boxing ansere's to itself only. Now if the fight fans all decided to sit it out and flexed afterwards then yes the fan would have something to say but the odds on that ? Forget about it.

I will pay for those 6 fights! Why? Because I'm tired of watching BS! I don't think I would pay if I were not limited by the virus! However, I do like the card: 2 title fights and 2 eliminators, so i'll drop $80 for that!

I will buy both cards mainly because I'm a die hard boxing fan but it would be a great chance to try a $49.99 HD price and see how it pans out. The $74.99 price may be more than some are willing to pay right now.
