So the previously unranked 122lb Champ vs the #4 ranked dude at 126.

    What happened to #1 - #3 I wonder?

(That's Conlan, Villa and Walsh FWIW, most sources have already updated but wiki ain't got round to it as of 5 mins ago. Funny watching history rewritten in real time. )

When a Champion fighter moves up the WBO automatically installs them as the #1 contender if the champ asks for it.

Per the WBOs rules only super champs get that right automatically. The rule has been misreported several times in the last week or two though, so you ain't at fault for thinking that.

They do stipulate that any 'classified' (by which I think they mean 'ranked') boxer may request mandatory staus however, and ranking is largely discretionary so I guess they got wriggle room.

Still seems deeply unfair on the guys that were higher ranked, although technically under the WBOs rules they should have the right to request an eliminator:

If a fighter is classified higher than the Mandatory Challenger, and is not
designated the Mandatory Challenger because of criteria three (3), or for other good
cause, the Championship Committee has the authority to order an eliminatory bout
between the higher classified boxer or boxers provided that at least one of the
elimination bout contestants is considered an acceptable challenger to the Champion’s
broadcast company. The winner of the elimination bout shall be then designated the
          Mandatory Challenger.

So going by the reaction, the thinking is that WBO is doing what Arum wants them to do.

So that means that it's possible that Arum is requesting lesser guys to protect Crawford's belt. Going by that same methodology. Right?

Yo, how did Ruben Villa lose his #2 ranking just so that Magdaleno could move up???

Absolutely shameless and corrupt by the WBO and Top Rank.

Is Artie Pelullo going to sit there and take it while the fighter he promotes gets passed over?

Fight is trash. Navarrette absolutely punished the guy who took magdalenos title. So now he's fighting him for a world title at a higher weight? What a joke

Certainly seems like the wbo are inclined to do what arum wants . . . .
