Comments Thread For: Callum Smith: I'd Still Take Canelo Fight In A Heartbeat; I'm Not Ducking It

Callum Smith turned down an offer to fight Canelo Alvarez over money, not because he is unwilling to face the Mexican superstar. England's Smith, the WBA super middleweight champion, believes a career-defining fight versus Alvarez is worth more than the undisclosed purse he was offered to battle Alvarez on May 2 in Las Vegas. Smith (27-0, 19 KOs) pointed out during an appearance on the newest episode of Chris Mannix's Sports Illustrated podcast that Billy Joe Saunders initially declined the same offer Smith turned down.

If you think that highly of Canelo then do you want to retire knowing you could have shared the ring with him but didn't over the amount of money? You will retire having made more money than sense anyways so if you think he's all that, go for it lad..

    Don't have regrets after..

Considering Canelo's been preparing for a southpaw, I don't expect anyone else.
I think it will be Ryder.

So Callum Smith is acknowledging that he and BJS received the same offer. He then says since BJS negotiations went forward that they upped BJS demands! And so NOW BJS publicly said he didn’t have enough time to train whereas Canelo has been training every single week since March.

BJS is a waste of time. This guy is the kingpin of cancellations. It’s almost as if Callum Smith is GENUINELY empathizing Canelo’s situation and wasted time! Lol. I’m willing to bet Smith and family felt like they should’ve taken the fight.

Now they’ve seen Ryder will get a substantial payday.

Andrade was right. He told Fight Hype he was worried to face BJS again because he was worried he’d cancel again! Can’t be wasting camp time. BJS should relinquish his title and take a hike

Can see why he rejected the first offer, based on the principle of it being a first offer and his status as WBA, Ring Magazine and WBSS champ.

But it sounds like he's regretting that decision now and I think was a little surprised not to receive a 2nd offer. Shame really, hope they get it on, Smith would arguably provide the most entertaining and stiffest test of them all at 168.

                  Need to rematch Ryder mate.

I just think how they brushed Ryder off (Smith and Gallagher) was just low class. They need to do the right thing.

I'm not sure Calum Smith is better than John Ryder.

Canelo probably also wanted callum to go down to 164 and low ball him knowing that he comes from one of the big boxing food chains and is the top guy at 168. Canela don't want it, cmon canelistas he went after paper bought fake champ felding who was destroyed by Smith ..no mamen.
