Former WBA, IBO, IBF, WBO world heavyweight champion Andy Ruiz returned to training this week to start getting in shape, with the possibility of a fight for the month of September. Ruiz has been inactive since December 2019, when he lost his world titles by way of a twelve round unanimous decision at the hands of Anthony Joshua in Saudi Arabia. Six months earlier, Ruiz stopped Joshua in seven rounds to capture the belts in a major shocker.

Flukes happen. He obviously wasn't talented enough to keep the crown.

They're just trying to put out stories to make people believe that he's now taking training seriously. It's rare that someone who showed the weak will to train that he did following his win turns it around. He had the buster Douglas blueprint for failure right in his face, but instead of avoiding it, he followed it plus added additional pages on how to fk up your golden ticket.

Not good enough, should of been training 1 week after the Joshua rematch.

Boxing should be a 365 day per year shift.

Ruiz Jr has talent but lacks the dedication and mindset.

I don't think we will see him do much more now, guys like him sometimes they have these brief periods when they are mentally "on" then they switch off and lounge around for months on end.

I think the stars aligned for him and he got AJ in one of his "on" periods and combined with catching Joshua off guard, it paid off well for him.

I doubt lightning will strike twice with him though, I see a lot of frustration and patchy form coming up.

I still want to see him vs Areolla though, I know Crus is well past it but it'd still be fun and would make some money the two big Mexican guys with fun styles.

Aside from not being good enough to sustain success, The lads not got the dedication to be an athlete constantly at the top of his game.. he's made his coin and he seems chuffed with that. Few fights off the back of the win to keep the coffers ticking over and that's him done with I think.. seeing an interview with his dad not long after he must have be tearing his hair out. Pleased as punch when he won and then major disappointment after. It looked unprofessional from the outside and got what he deserved in the end..
