I've REALLY tried to get into watching UFC, but I just can't do it........

The only fight I was actually interested in was Khabib vs Mcgregor, but that's because of it's buildup and sky high tensions that made it a lot more than just another UFC fight.

But other than that fight, I don't know why, but I can't get in to it.. Maybe if I would have started watching UFC first. But after watching boxing for so long, UFC seems very sloppy and for some reason, it seems that it's a lot easier for the dudes there to make it all the way to the biggest stage compared to boxing.

    hmm.......

Both fair criticisms in my book. I'm a fan, but compared to specialists they're sloppy and compared to well seasoned sports they are young and lack any real legends.

They say it looks different because it's MMA but their best boxers look sloppy in sparring boxing alone. It's because they lack focus.

They say they evolve, but really they just change what they're doing to best attack what the previous class did, Because they lack focus.

Their best trainers are guys like Frank Dux but less famos and so not made fun of as often by general media.

It is a bummy, young sport that isn't sure of its own form or future chasing its own ass while promoting itself as if these kids are actually good at anything.

I watch the bigger fights, I don’t follow it religiously though. For example, I barely knew who that guy was who beat Woodley last weekend.

I’m with you though man, it just seems like a sub standard product compared to boxing. Maybe it’s the skill level, the lack of history and tradition or just my personal preference but I just don’t get the same type of excitement or enjoyment watching MMA.

Ha ha, I know what you mean, man. Very hard to understand the significance of those minute shifts of balance or position unless you got some training in a grappling art, and almost impossible to explain in a way that'll make it interesting to someone who ain't done it, but like boxing there's a whole lot going on under the surface so to speak.

Although I enjoy watching and appreciate both sports, for my money boxing is a better spectator sport in part because of its availability. Even the most casual of fans can follow the action in boxing even if they miss much of the nuance, whereas watching a coupla guys on the ground for a few minutes trying to gain positional advantage makes little sense to most people until they got an interpreter who can actually explain to em what's going on.

I used to watch UFC more than boxing! But that was back around the prime UFC/Pride/WEC days....

I can watch it, but not too much. When I watch it I can tell the difference significantly.

Yeah I feel you. I am trying.

                I like Masvidal though.

There are only a handful at any given time that I will make it a point to watch. It is usually people that have a particular style that is sort of unique to them, like Anderson Silva/Lyoto Machida/Dan Henderson back when they were in their prime. The thing that bores me to an extent with MMA is that it seems an overwhelming majority are trained in a very similar manner and mindset. I rarely see a true contrast of styles and adjustments. This may have to do with the long rounds which limits the impact of having a corner giving advice.

Also the overall beauracracy of UFC. There is no pageantry or identity for most of their fighters to come into their own character.

The big problem for me is just not really understanding anything about ground game. Obviously the trained eye can see what’s going on, The technicalities but to me it looks like dry humping.

I wish I understood more to enjoy it more in depth because it’s actually quite a unique and fascinating sport in some ways. We talk about styles make fights in boxing but that’s within the frame of boxing styles, in UFC you’ve got people lcoming from completely different disciplines and sports.

I still enjoy seeing a big event but I’m the equivalent of people who really have no idea or not much interest in boxing but watch an AJ fight or something, like some board members here.
