Comments Thread For: Xander Zayas Draws Inspiration Through Friendship With Amanda Serrano

Given the rich history of all-time great boxers to hail from Puerto Rico, Xander Zayas isn't short on inspiration for his own budding pro career. One such motivating factor comes in his everyday friendship with island royalty. The list of all-time male favorites for the 17-year old welterweight reads similar to most other Boricua boxers-Wilfredo Bazooka' Gomez, Wilfred Benitez, Felix Tito' Trinidad, Hector Macho' Camacho and Miguel Cotto. However, it's his already formed strong bond with record-setting seven-division titlist Amanda Serrano (38-1-1, 28KOs) that has provided an invaluable mentorship at the infancy of his pro career.

Despite having such a small population it sure does have a great boxing tradition, it's on a level with Philadelphia and Detroit

      Definitely a great tradition.

Not a lot to brag about recently, though. At least on the men's side.

        Great source of inspiration.

For someone of his age, Xander Xayas have discipline outside the ring and fight better and discipline inside the ring, compared to other prospect for someone with only 4 fights.

Just stay humble, success brings a whole lot of distractions and temptations that can derail anyone’s career, it’s happened to many and continues to happen... stay humble work hard and stay dedicated and the sky is the limit. Best of luck

True, they had that guy who was supposed to be the next big star and damn if he hasn't fallen so far off my radar I forget his name, the guy who had a motorbike accident and looked lacklustre in quite a few fights.
