It's so easy to see hot favourites unravel after the event, to see upsets the morning after and maybe even claim that you always had a gut feeling that what actually happened would actually happen. In some sections of the boxing media, notably by the BBC's Mike Costello and Steve Bunce, those who are wise only after what has gone before are heralded as after-timers.

Not just reading the writing on the wall pre-fight, I remember the commentary in Williams v Martinez II as not even seeing what was happening before their very eyes. At the point where Martinez was starting to connect cleanly, they said 'Williams starting to connect cleanly now', and I remember thinking if they knew which boxer was which.

I remember being a young man, sitting in a chat room where someone was trying to explain why Hatton would beat Tszyu. The entire room was ridiculing and making fun of him. I remembered his every word for a while because of how ridiculous and hilarious it all was. I remember his words now because to this day it inspires me to try and understand the sport better.

I remember having a few quid on Prescott handing Khan his first loss back in the day, he was 8-1.

Okay I didn't predict the 1st round but Khan had been no stranger to the canvas and everything about Prescott just screamed '****er.'

As per usual Khan went all out attack with little to no regard for his defence or Prescott's power. The fact he came unstuck quickly shouldn't have been a surprise to anyone. But never underestimate the power of hype.

you have to be able to see through the personal agendas too.
why do you think lennox lewis was giving glowing praise to Audley Harrison and then David Price?
          think...
he has an ego on him..
when they were going to fall, which he obv must have known (with his boxing iq), it would only elevate him.
It made him look like the good guy, like he's supporting the next gen, but in reality he had his own agenda.
the guys he chose to regularly hate on were Haye and AJ.

            What a weird post...

Lennox is an honest guy. He sees through the bullsh** or the “politricks” as he called it.

Well done from someone that's obviously a fan of the written word.

Always expecting a hit piece these days I scan for the controversy but instead I found a thought provoking well written article.

              Thanks.

I remember having this ****** dream as a kid, that Lewis knocked Razor Ruddock out in two. This was at a time when nobody thought Lewis would even dent him, and Razor would probably left hook him into oblivion. Wish I'd put a bet on, but i was abit young. The dream was eerily similar too, with Ruddock looking a bit scared and Lewis looking like some wierd calm alien. It turned out exactly like that.

I pick so many losers, everybody tells me, I told you so, sooner or later. I can't help it, I like under dogs and lost causes.

Well said. I was in Cambodia when the Kostya v Hatton fight was going down, I couldn’t wait to find out the result. I knew the fight was a long time coming. Still when I read how Hatton made him quit, I was surprised myself. Surely Ricky’s best performance. I remember thinking Martinez would beat Cotto. I was a bit concerned how they wouldn’t show any training by Martinez in the build up shows. Also a pic surfaced of Martinez looking pretty chubby, which was not like him. My Dad who is way better at predicting fights than me, said “Martinez is leaking oil”. Martinez got in the ring with double knee braces and tried to cover them with huge jammer shorts. I still wanted to believe he’d out maneuver cotto and strafe him with lefts. Martinez’s feet looked glued to the floor when he moved, but when he got hit he looked like he was wearing roller skates. Like u said, getting things wrong is what keeps us coming back to the sport. I think being humbled by an outcome can be satisfying in its own way. Reminds us why they fight the fights.
