  • Comments Thread For: Josh Taylor Expects Mandatory, Would Rather Bypass For Big Fight

IBF, WBA junior welterweight champion Josh Taylor admits that he would need to muster up a lot of mental strength to get himself motivated in a closed doors scenario. Earlier this month, Taylor was due to defend his two titles against mandatory challenger Apinun Khongsong of Thailand. The event was pushed back due to the coronavirus pandemic.

You bypass Ramirez bypass his fight and you and Jose come together and make the fight that everyone knows is the right one to make... stop the bs... phuck these promoters and networks at the end of the day us fans are the ones that put up the money... boycott anything not Ramirez vs Taylor at 140

Soon to be undisputed 140lb king. America will probably refuse him entry so he doesn't bulldoze through their welters. #ItsComing

Ever since I saw Taylor, I knew he could be something special and had world championship potential. A lot of people wrote him off in North America because he looks like your average chimney sweep but he's a damn good boxer!

Nice to hear he wants to go back into a high level fight instead of a pointless tune up. I say pointless because most boxers will have had a solid layoff by the next time they fight and thus not much of a ring rust handicap.

You're getting way way ahead of yourself. It's a tricky jump from 140 to 147 as Danny Garcia has found out - his dominance at 140 hasn't shifted to 147. Crawford, as skilled as he is hasn't yet thought and beat an elite welter. Manny and Floyd did it but they are more the exception in this era.

I make him favourite to beat Ramirez but I'd still start him off just a slight favourite in a rematch with Prograis. I could see him being over-run by Porter and Spence and out boxed by Terrence.

Tbh, I'm just winding up the Bud fans (heck, I'm even one of them). Taylor has a lot of work to do, first in beating Ramirez(if he beats Viktor), then if he goes to 147, he's got the size, speed, abilities and ring IQ to do well. How anyone handles Shawn Porter is a very good acid test at 147. I was there for Prograis vs Taylor and Josh imposed his will on Regis all night without necessarily winning EVERY round (I had it 9 -3, most were 8 - 4). Personally, I can't see Regis improving on what he did but I'd love to see a rematch nonetheless.
LIke I say, Josh has the boxing attributes and he's got the right attitude to progress. No guarantees but a guy like 'Hank' is in a good position to push on for greater things.
