He fought vitali on 2 weeks notice. Thats an example of a guy fighting an elite guy on short notice.

Williams fought martinez on 2 weeks notice. Thats the 2nd example of a guy fighting an elite guy on short notice

I didn't say he didn't fight on short notice. I said the circumstances were different. Lewis had been chasing a fight with Vitali and and been in active negotiations with him. The circumstances are not the same. By the way how well did Lewis do in that fight?? He damned near lost. In the first first Martinez Williams fight which you must be referencing Martinez lost. When he was properly prepped for Williams he steamrolled him. I think it's pretty obvious that taking on a challenger on short notice is risky. Golovkin wasn't going to fight a guy as good as Derevyanchenko on short notice for crap money and possibly jeopardise the Canelo fight. It would be ****** to do so. Cotto paid step aside to Golovkin so he could fight Martinez for the same reason. FFS.
