I didn't say he didn't fight on short notice. I said the circumstances were different. Lewis had been chasing a fight with Vitali and and been in active negotiations with him. The circumstances are not the same. By the way how well did Lewis do in that fight?? He damned near lost. In the first first Martinez Williams fight which you must be referencing Martinez lost. When he was properly prepped for Williams he steamrolled him. I think it's pretty obvious that taking on a challenger on short notice is risky. Golovkin wasn't going to fight a guy as good as Derevyanchenko on short notice for crap money and possibly jeopardise the Canelo fight. It would be ****** to do so. Cotto paid step aside to Golovkin so he could fight Martinez for the same reason. FFS.

Lewis took vitali on short notice.. And he won. Johnson pulled out of the lewis fight.

It isn’t 2015 anymore. Sergey Kovalev is 37 years old, is 4-4 in his last 8 fights and has been knocked out 3 times in that span. He was also almost stopped in the fight he had directly before the alvarez fight.

Daniel Jacobs would be favored over Kovalev and is considered to be the better fighter at this point in their careers.

Just no. I would favor the OTHER Alavarez to beat Jacobs at LHW. Don't tell me u would take Jacobs???

People need to be honest here, do we really think Derev and DiBella would've fought Golovkin for $225k, when he made at least double several months later against Jacobs? Golovkin only made a million when he was obviously at a much better point financially at that time in his career when he fought Vanes. There was no money in that fight and I have my doubts Derev and his team would've been happy with such a small purse considering the threat and name that Golovkin was.

The only thing your response indicated to me is that you didn't bother to read the post.. Those situations regarding Lewis and Martinez were very different. Derev and Golovkin fought later just as Loeffler promised. So I don't see what you are going on about unless you are pissed because you think on short notice Golovkin would lose. Both guys had a proper training camp and put on a great fight. Golovkin went into the Canelo fight in great shape and they put on a great fight. He wasn't about to risk a lose or injury and screw up the Canelo rematch and a chance to avenge his draw. Neither would Lewis or Martinez if the were inhis shoes.

GGG was IBF champion after he fought Martirosyan. He was stripped for fighting Canelo Alvarez instead of Sergey Derevyanchenko.

So GGG vacated to fight a guy who was arguably the best boxer alive. He then fought the guy he “ducked” two fights later to win back the title he vacated.
