Comments Thread For: Could Televising Boxing On Weeknights Become A Regular Thing Again?

By Keith Idec - Bob Arum remembers "enormous" audiences watching when ESPN televised Top Rank's cards on Tuesday nights and Thursday nights during the 1980s. "ESPN's boxing was must-see television back then," Arum told BoxingScene.com. "Everybody watched it." Everyone that watches boxing regularly these days has grown accustomed to the sport...

I used to love the 1980's/90's ITV show fight night presented by Jim Rosenthal. It used to show loads of S/E Asian & Australian fights that we would never have got to see. Charlie Atkinson's stable featured frequently.

      Excellent Article and well polish.

I like the idea of different boxing cards in night week between Monday to Sunday 3 times per week night of fights.

Great. Now make it the same night every week and start the shows at like 7pm....not 9pm...

I’m not against it but if everyone will recall for a minute, when ESPN and USA had weekday fights, the matchups were shall we say less than stellar. There were a few upsets here and there but you could pick winners at about a 95% clip. But the price was right and it beat most of the crap on cable tv.

I am going to keep in mind that we are talking about promoters. And they are a dif animal. yet circumstances as they are they may be forced to do things that will benifit the fight fan in some of us. I have heard the talk weekday fights, more well matched fights, as I said if pushed in that direction it may lead to something nice. yet it will be no fans not a live event other then the fighters etc. Will that play out, how will the health conditions of all concerned be taken care of, are people staying hungry for boxing? Well that is why promoters are talking about these fights. Not shooting it down just looking at it from several angels it all.

Yes I miss USA Tuesday Night Fights. Never missed it and it needs to come back. ESPN and PBC really need to bring back boxing during the week and on Saturday afternoons

                Tuesday night fights
                Friday night fights

Although they had horrible numbers maybe this time around it can succeed
                Obviously with better fights cards
                Maybe even attracting some casuals

                Wishful thinking ?

Absolutely, I'm pretty sure the first time I saw Tyson, Terry Norris, Roy Jones Jr, and James Toney was on Tuesday Night Fights.

Maybe this could help boxing get away from the casino shxt too.

Never understood why people would trust a sporting event that takes place where everyone's ******** on it.

Sporting events should happen in arenas, stadiums, & theatres made for sports
